How does the second step at sign-in work?

The second step is a 6 digit code from an authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator, asked for after your password. It keeps your account safe even if someone learns your password. You turn it on in Settings, Security.

Turning it on logs you out on every other device. After 5 wrong codes in a row, you must wait 15 minutes and sign in again with your password.

STEP BY STEP

  1. Step 1: Open Settings and tap Security.

  2. Step 2: Beside Second step when signing in, tap Turn on.

  3. Step 3: Scan the code shown with Google Authenticator or a similar app. Type the 6 digit code the app shows in Code from your app, then tap Turn on.

  4. Step 4: Next time you sign in, after your password we ask for the Code from your authenticator app. Type the newest code your app shows.

  5. Step 5: To turn it off, tap Turn off in Security and type a code from your app.
